Height-adjustable garbage bin box: three models for slopes and uneven ground
If your space is not completely level, a rigid box wobbles and the lid closes crookedly. A height-adjustable garbage bin box solves this: with adjustable feet, you can compensate for a slope, a paving edge, or a lawn edge without having to level the ground extensively. At BIO Stefan, all three models in this selection have height-adjustable feet and are available from the 1 box to the 6 boxes range: Alubert made of powder-coated aluminum with the largest adjustment range from 10 to 75 mm, Stahlfred as a solid steel classic with 15 to 60 mm and an additional adjustable base rail, and Holzmichl with a real spruce wood front in a steel frame, also adjustable from 15 to 60 mm.
This way, you can find a suitable garbage bin enclosure for a slope or uneven ground. All models are weatherproof and can be expanded later in the same color tone; Stahlfred and Holzmichl can also be locked. Anthracite (RAL 7016) is the most affordable standard color at BIO Stefan, with additional RAL shades optionally configurable for an extra charge.

How height-adjustable feet compensate for a slope
Each base foot has an adjustment screw. You turn the feet individually in or out until the box stands level despite the slope and no longer wobbles. A spirit level on the lid shows you when everything is perfectly aligned. The Alubert offers the greatest range of adjustment from 10 to 75 mm, providing the most leeway when leveling, which is ideal for a slight slope. Stahlfred and Holzmichl compensate for paving joints, lawn edges, and a slight cross slope with 15 to 60 mm of adjustment; Stahlfred additionally features an adjustable base rail for mounting.
Important: The feet compensate for unevenness but do not replace a stable foundation. For steeper longitudinal slopes or soft ground, a solid base made of slabs or gravel is worthwhile. How to prepare the ground and permanently compensate for a slope is explained in our guide Foundation and Groundwork for the garbage bin box.

Advantages of an adjustable-height garbage bin box
Compensate for slope instead of leveling the ground: The adjustable feet level the box on uneven or slightly sloping surfaces without the need for extensive earthworks.
Largest adjustment range with the Alubert: With 10 to 75 mm, the Alubert offers the greatest adjustment reserve when aligning and is particularly lightweight thanks to the aluminum.
Adjustable base rail on the Stahlfred: In addition to the feet, the adjustable base rail ensures a secure stand and clean attachment to the ground.
No wobbling, clean lid closure: When the box is level, the lid closes neatly and the doors align, protecting against wind, animals, and moisture.
Gentle opening: Gas pressure dampers on the lid prevent slamming; on Stahlfred and Holzmichl, the lid also closes gently thanks to impact dampers.
Lockable: Stahlfred and Holzmichl lock the lid and door with a central lock; on the Alubert, the lock is integrated into the handle (not lockable).
Weatherproof and durable: Powder-coated aluminum on the Alubert, hot-dip galvanized and powder-coated steel on Stahlfred and Holzmichl keep corrosion and UV radiation out permanently.
Expandable in the same color: Later, you can turn your box into a longer row by ordering matching extension elements.
Which height-adjustable garbage bin box suits your slope?
All three models stand securely on a slope, but they differ in adjustment range, material, and appearance. Which one suits you depends on the severity of the unevenness, the desired look, and your budget.
If you need the greatest adjustment range, the Alubert with 10 to 75 mm adjustment travel is the most flexible choice, and being made of aluminum, it is especially easy to handle. If you are looking for a solid steel classic that can be precisely aligned via feet and base rail, choose the Stahlfred. If you want the box to have a warm and natural look, the Holzmichl combines a sturdy steel frame with a genuine spruce wood front, which you can color-coordinate with your fence, terrace, or facade. You can also find Alubert in the Aluminum Collection, the steel models in the Metal Trash Bin Boxes, and the Wood Trash Bin Boxes.
Flip-top lid or plant roof: both possible on a slope
The flip-top lid (automatic lid) opens with gas pressure dampers and can be opened synchronously with your trash bin via a connecting chain, allowing you to add trash without pulling out the bin. This roof option is available for all three models.
With the plant roof, a flat planting tray sits on top instead of the flip-top lid, providing space for succulents, herbs, or summer flowers. Alubert, Stahlfred, and Holzmichl are available in both roof versions; all plant roof models are grouped together in the collection of trash bin boxes with plant roofs. If the box is on a slope, first level it horizontally using the feet, so the planting tray sits evenly and the watering distributes evenly.
How to properly set up the garbage bin box on a slope
First, loosely place the box in its spot and use a spirit level to check which way the ground slopes. Then, turn the feet on the lower side out until the box is level all around. For Stahlfred, also align the base rail. Only when the box is perfectly vertical do you tighten all the connections. This prevents tension and ensures the lid closes cleanly.
For steeper slopes or soft ground, a solid base is recommended, such as paving slabs or a compacted gravel bed. You can find a detailed step-by-step guide in the advice section Foundation and Ground for the garbage bin box.
Easy to assemble yourself: Delivered as a kit
All models come disassembled as flat-pack kits, with Stahlfred and Holzmichl on a pallet. Pre-drilled parts, gas struts, and an illustrated assembly manual make the setup predictable; you only need a wrench and a cordless drill. Stahlfred includes a keyed lock and connecting chain in the delivery. Alternatively, you can see all models in our showroom in Leonding near Linz in person.
Matching collections around your box
Do you want to compare the models by material? Check out the metal garbage bin boxes, the aluminum garbage bin boxes, or the wood garbage bin boxes. If you prefer a planted roof instead of a hinged lid on top, the collection with planted roof brings together all the models that can be greened. And if you still need to figure out how to prepare the ground, the guide Foundation and ground for the garbage bin box will help you further.
FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
Care for your height-adjustable garbage bin box
The boxes are largely low-maintenance. Powder-coated surfaces can be cleaned as needed with lukewarm water, a soft sponge, and a mild cleaner. The spruce wood front of the Holzmichl can be treated every one to two years with transparent wood stain or wood oil, though this is not necessary and is a matter of style. Occasionally check the adjustable feet and tighten them if needed to ensure the box remains securely level.
